Engaged couples have never had it so bad!

Recently, I read an interesting article on the BBC News website about the impact on the wedding industry of tighter COVID-19 ceremony and celebration restrictions . The piece was focussed on how wedding photographers and other suppliers have experienced a significant drop in business this year.

I completely understand and sympathise with the wedding suppliers' situation but I would also like to add a further dimension about the distressing position that engaged couples find themselves in; and more importantly will continue to be in for the next couple of years.

Many wedding suppliers are already fully booked next year because 2020 Lockdown affected weddings have been rescheduled. With the new restrictions lasting until at least the start of April, it is extremely likely that the vast majority of January / February / March weddings will need to be rescheduled as well...but to when? 2021 is already full!

Engaged couples have some hard choices to make...hold an intimate wedding with only 15 guests; or slip their Big Day even further to 2022; or change suppliers (and potentially lose deposits); or compromise on the type of wedding day they wished for, for example stage a weekday event instead of a weekend one.

The limited capacity of suppliers to meet 2021/22 demand will be put under further pressure by all the recently engaged couples and those who intend to pop the question in the next 12 months.

My heart goes out to all those people at the start of their marriage adventures. Planning what is supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life is stressful enough but doing so in such a log-jammed wedding supplier market will make it almost intolerable.
